Our
Story

Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Blue Anchor, Anchor's Drop offers a rare opportunity to stay right by the sea, surrounded by stunning coastal beauty and rich history. Formerly known as the Blue Anchor Hotel, this historic property has stood proudly on the Somerset coast since the 1600s. Over the years, the building has been expanded and improved, while carefully preserving its original charm.

For decades, Anchor's Drop faced the threat of coastal erosion, with cliff falls and landslips putting the property at risk of falling into the sea. After a decade-long campaign, nearly 14,000 tonnes of rock armour were added as part of a £3.5 million project to protect both the property and the nearby road. During this time, our family built makeshift sea defenses, determined to safeguard Anchor's Drop until official help arrived. Thanks to these efforts, the property is now secure and will remain on the cliffs for years to come.

Now, the property is thriving once again. As of 2024, Anchor's Drop is excited to offer the main building for exclusive group stays, in addition to its six self-catering holiday homes. This coastal gem offers a unique blend of modern comforts and timeless heritage, making it the perfect spot for those seeking an unforgettable seaside escape.

Anchor's Drop offers stunning views over Blue Anchor Bay, with Exmoor and North Hill as a backdrop. Its cliff-edge location and rich history provide a unique blend of heritage and natural beauty. Dating back to the 1600s, the property has been preserved through years of transformation.

Located between Minehead and Watchet, just outside Exmoor National Park, Anchor's Drop is ideally placed for exploring the Somerset coast and countryside, offering a memorable experience for history and nature lovers alike.
